Should You Buy Property in Turkey ?
Are you considering buying property in Turkey? I bought my very first property in Turkey in 2017 and seven more since then. In this article, I will explain when you should also consider buying real estate in Turkey.

Overview Buying Property in Turkey
Turkey is one of the most beautiful countries on this planet. But you should only buy property in Turkey if you really love a particular place. In my experience, there are five groups of people for whom it makes sense to consider buying real estate in Turkey:
- Summer home
- People loving Istanbul
- More stable muslim country
- Cooler place during summer
- Investment property
1) Summer home
Firstly people, who are looking for a summer home. Turkey has beautiful beach towns along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts. This is ideal for people who want to spend extended periods in Turkey during the summer. Many cities have great weather between April and October.
This is also very attractive for retirees. Retirement in Turkey can be wonderful. If you own property in Turkey, you can enjoy a high standard of living even with a moderate pension from Europe or the US, for example.
2) People loving Istanbul
The second group are people who love Istanbul. This is also what motivated us in the first place. Istanbul, and in particular the Bosphorus were one of the few places we wanted to visit again and again. After two years of research, I bought our first property in Istanbul back in 2018.
Istanbul is one the best connected cities and can be visited all year round. While living in Germany, my record was visiting ten times in a single year. If your flight is under four hours, you can even come for an extended weekend trip.
3) More stable muslim country
Thirdly are people who are looking for a more stable muslim country than their home country. Maybe there are challenges where you live and you want a more secure environment for your family’s future.
Turkey is one of the very few countries that offers citizenship through a property investment program. This program is called the Turkish citizenship by investment program. If you buy property for more than 400,000 US Dollars, you can obtain Turkish Citizenship for yourself, your spouse and your dependent children. 4) Cooler place during summer
Number four are people, who are looking for a cooler place to stay during summer. If your country is extremely hot during summer and you want to escape the heat, the highlands of the Black Sea region might be perfect for you.
The city of Trabzon is already very popular with visitors from the Middle East. There are many direct flight connections to Trabzon.
5) Investment property
Number five are people who are looking for an investment property in Turkey. Only buy an investment property in Turkey, if you have a strong personal connection to the city. Do not buy purely for financial reasons.
In my experience, the best investment properties in Turkey real estate can be found in Istanbul. These are most often apartment properties in highly sought-after neighbourhoods.
In addition, if you own a villa along the Aegean or Mediterranean coasts, you can also consider renting it out on Airbnb when you are not using it. However, you need to be cautious, as not every villa property in Turkey is eligible for short-term rentals.
